Continental Furniture at Reindeer Antiques

This month we have chosen to illustrate some pieces of Continental Furniture.

Continental Furniture design had a strong influence on English Furniture via the publication of designs, court fashion and the migration of predominantly Huguenot cabinet-makers.

The japanned escritoire illustrates how the taste for Chinoiserie swept the Continent as well as Britain. It is in an excellent state of preservation and would be a superb focus point for a decorative scheme.

The oval commodes are unusually large and would make a great pair of bedside tables. Their marble tops are original and the drawers and cupboard doors give lots of room for storage.
