An elegant George III Adam period harewood and rosewood veneered breakfront commode with marquetry inlay; the commode's well figured siena marble top above three drawers which are inlaid with central Neo-classical vase on rosewood ground set within a border of laurel leaves flanked by panels of harewood inlaid with boxwood in a diaper pattern and stylised flower heads; the commode's sides veneered in harewood and inlaid with boxwood in a diaper pattern; raised on elegant cabriole legs with ormolu sabots. Crossbanded throughout in rosewood and retaining its original Neo-classical swan neck handles.
A commode is the formal term for a chest of drawers which is longer than it is tall.
