A superb William and Mary walnut chest of drawers profusely inlaid with marquetry; the top and two short and three long graduated drawers individually decorated with intricate marquetry depicting flowers including tulips and chrysanthemums with acanthus leaves and exotic birds set edged with wheatsheaf banding. The sides inlaid with a marquetry panell depicting a spray of tulips. Raised on later bun feet.
This antique chest of drawers is a brilliant example of the late 17th Century cabinet-maker's art. The marquetry panels are of the finest quality and importantly retain much of their original highly detailed shading and colouring.
