A rare pair of George II style carved mahogany console tables; the later Breccia Violetta marble top above a frieze crossgrain veneered in mahogany with egg and dart and ribbon and flower mouldings; centred by a crisply carved rococo cartouche. The tables are raised on crisply carved cabriole legs which have wonderful lion masks to the knee and terminate in hairy paw feet.
Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire
Brocket Hall was built to designs by the eminent architect James Paine in the mid Eighteenth Century. It was home to two Prime Ministers in the Nineteenth Century; firstly Viscount Melbourne who was a great favourite of Queen Victoria and laterly Lord Palmerston. Brocket Hall was regularly visited by Queen Victoria in the early years of her reign and George V was a frequent visitor during his reign.
