A handsome George II mahogany cupboard base bookcase; the cavetto moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors which open to reveal adjustable shelves; below are a pair of fielded panel doors veneered in beautifully figured Cuban mahogany and open to reveal further adjustable bookshelves. The bookcase is raised on its original bracket feet.
This Georgian bookcase is a great example of the finest Georgian design and craftsmanship. Its crisp mouldings and use of the best Cuban mahogany are typical of the finest early Georgian cabinet-making and the small proportions with a low waist is also typical of finer early Georgian furniture. The feature I particularly enjoy is the quality of the bookcase's brass fittings which are exceptional.
