Georgian mahogany two door cabinet

Date: 2018-12-13 05:21:01

Circa: 1750

Period: George II Period c. 1727-1760

Height: 37.75" (96cm)

Width: 49.25" (125cm)

Depth: 24.75" (63cm)

A George II mahogany two door cabinet; the caddy moulded top above two panelled doors which open to reveal a pull-out shelf and two drawers; the cabinet is raised on the original bracket feet. The cabinet's sides retain the original brass carrying handles.

The bold masculine design of this cabinet is typical of the best early Georgian mahogany furniture. The doors and top of the cabinet are made from solid Cuban mahogany which is a key characteristic of the period. The use of clean caddy mouldings to the top and edges of the cabinet enhances its masculine character and I love the chunky brass carrying handles on the sides.
