A rare Napoleonic Prisoner of War strawwork bottle; the glass bottle enclosed within an strawwork casing which is decorated with panels depicting vases of flowers set within chevron banded bottles.
Napoleonic Prisoners of War sought to alleviate their hardship by turning their hands to various crafts and selling their creations. Sailors created amazing ships and other models out of discarded bones and straw was another material that was in plentiful supply. The straw was died to various shades and then meticulously pieced together to create various designs.
