A crisply carved George III Chippendale period giltwood mirror in the rococo taste; the original mirror plate set within a giltwood frame profusely carved with C and S scrolls of acanthus leaves and bull rushes; the mirror's central cartouche is flanked by a pair of Ho Ho birds.
The Ho Ho birds found at the top of this mirror are a feature found on the more elaborate Rococo mirrors and porcelain of the mid Eighteenth Century. This mysterious creature is an Oriental version of the phoenix.
