An Irish George III Sheraton period satinwood and sycamore veneered semi elliptical console table in the manner of William Moore of Dublin; the semi elliptical top with a central inlaid fan motif in boxwood on a sycamore ground from which extends alternating satinwood and sycamore segments with barber's pole stringing and crossbanded in harewood above a beautifully figured satinwood frieze strung in satinwood and boxwood with inlaid marquetry urns to the top of each leg; raised on elegant square tapering legs which are strung and line inlaid in boxwood. Of beautifully refined proportions and retaining an excellent colour and patination.
This table displays the main characteristics of William Moore of Dublin's work; both in its design with exquisite fan marquetry inlay and choice of woods: satinwood and sycamore. William Moore trained in London specialising as a 'marqueter'with the leading firm of Mayhew and Ince. He then left for the increasingly prosperous city of Dublin which was building its Georgian New Town. Moore set up his workshops at Abbey Street in Dublin (1785-90) and then at Capel Street and was known for producing elegant marquetry inlaid furniture.
