A handsome George II period mahogany breakfront bookcase; the bookcase's dentil moulded cornice above a central astragal glazed door flanked by a glazed door to either side which enclose fully adjustable bookshelves; below are a central bank of four graduated drawers which have swan neck handles flanked by panelled doors; the bookcase is raised on bracket feet.
This bookcase is beautifully made and has charming proportions. The mouldings and astragals are very crisp and the drawers are all lined in oak, a sign of fine quality. The bookcase is low waisted which gives it a refined elegance and it is unusually narrow so it will fit in most libraries or studies.
