A French Directoire period fruitwood hanging panetiere; of architectural form; the overlapping diamond pattern astragals decorated with paterae and having a Neo-classical door. Retaining an excellent patina.
The panetiere or bread storage box would have hung in the kitchen above the kneading trough, the petrin. The highly architectural design of this cupboard is very unusual.
